The African Humanities Association (AHA), hosted at the University of Ghana, is pleased to announce the award of a $900,000 philanthropic grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York to support the Enhancing Humanities Research in Africa (EHURA) project.
The EHURA programme, an initiative of the African Humanities Association, will be implemented from October 2025 to September 2028, encompassing all six of AHA’s geographical regions of operation: Anglophone West Africa, East Africa, Francophone West and Central Africa, Lusophone Africa, North Africa, and Southern Africa. As an AHA-led initiative, the programme will:

  • Provide post-doctoral fellowships for early-career scholars.
  • Establish a residency and mentorship programme, with special support for female academics.
  • Investigate the role of artificial intelligence in reshaping African narratives.
  • Create a peer-reviewed journal for African humanities scholarship.
  • Expand international partnerships through joint research, publications, and academic exchanges.

This award underscores the importance of supporting rigorous scholarship and fostering the next generation of African researchers. Through EHURA, AHA will continue to strengthen the capacity of scholars, promote cross-disciplinary collaboration, and enrich the intellectual landscape of the continent.

We extend our appreciation to Carnegie for its philanthropic support in advancing the humanities in Africa.
